The best places in the world to raise a child
If you're an expat with kids, these are the countries to move to.
Raising a child isn't easy. It's a full-time job that demands a parent's undivided attention, and offers little downtime.
That's why it's probably helpful to live in a place that eases the burden of child-rearing as much as possible. Thankfully the online global expat community InterNations has identified those places in its Family Life Index—part of its annual quality-of-life survey Expat Insider—which ranks countries' quality of family life for expats based on such criteria as education and childcare.
Austria came in on top this year, with impressive ratings for children's health and safety (98% positive answers), children's general well-being (100%), available leisure activities for kids (95%), and family life in general (96%).
Rounding out the top 5 were Finland (No. 1 in Quality of Education); Sweden (No. 1 in Cost of Childcare and Education); Israel (No. 3 in Family Well-Being and No. 4 in Availability of Childcare and Education); and New Zealand (No. 5 in Family Well-Being). The United States came in at No. 25 of the 41 countries included on the list.
