Looking to find love? Move to one of these countries
If you're tired of striking out at home, consider moving abroad. Learn what countries rank high in romance.
Even if you've never been lucky enough to watch the 1980 John Travolta movie "Urban Cowboy," you've probably heard the saying in other contexts: "I was lookin' for love in all the wrong places."
Well, now that we've had 37 years to ruminate on that classic line, we've got a slight revision: "I was lookin' for love in all the wrong countries."
Indeed, if you're finding it hard to lock down a solid, lasting relationship in your home country, it might be time to jump on the romantic expat bandwagon. An impressive 8% of people who moved to Greece, the Phillippines, Israel, Finland and Norway from another country say they did so because they were looking for love. And guess what? They found it, and they're planning on staying forever.
That's all part of the new survey from InterNations, a global network for people who live and work abroad. Its Expat Insider 2016 survey reveals which countries are best for expats in general, but it goes much deeper than that – you can also see which countries are the best places to raise a family, experience adventure, work and go to school, and find love.
No matter what stage of life you're in, the expat survey has something you can relate to. Looking for the best place to raise kids? Argentina, Norway and Portugal are the ideal countries to lay down roots. Looking for a dream destination that's satisfying and won't leave you with unrelenting culture shock? Give Malta, Costa Rica and New Zealand a try.
As you can see, several countries take top billing for several categories; Israel, for example, gets high marks for romance, family life, and health and well-being; Portugal is great for both families and dream destination seekers while also coming in strong for personal happiness; and Taiwan wins for both overall expat country and quality of life.
