Ferme-Auberge le Castelas - France
Near the tiny French village of Sivergues, Ferme-Auberge le Castelas is a 16th-century farmhouse on 2,000 acres of rolling countryside, home to goats, pigs, cats and horses. After “a scenic, winding, hair-raising trip along a narrow ribbon of road that hugs a mountain range,” guests settle in for a four-hour meal including goat cheese, local wines, roast pork “and many, many baguettes,” served outdoors on long wooden tables, wrote Michelle Slatalla of Gardinista. This bed and breakfast can accommodate up to 65 guests and is a popular spot for hikers and horseback riders.

Trevin Farms – Vermont
If you’re in New England and want to experience the beautiful Green Mountains, consider staying at Trevin Farms for a rustic country-inn experience. It’s a working farm where you can visit the goats and volunteer to help out with them, as well as take a cheese-making class to learn firsthand about how to create rich, creamy goat cheese. According to their website, you’ll also find “25 undisturbed acres of woods for bird-watching and hiking and on clear crisp nights, millions of stars for gazing.” Sign us up for the country breakfast with real Vermont maple syrup.

Naot Farm – Israel
Established in 2003, Naot Farm is an active farm and dairy that also includes four private guest cabins, each with breathtaking views. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the farm, which is home to 150 goats, and the dairy, where you can see goats being milked and learn about the art of cheese making from proprietress Lea Nachimov, who honed her craft during two study tours in Spain. Breakfast each day includes several varieties of homemade cheese – from soft cheese balls coated with flavorful spices or dipped in olive oil, to hard cheese infused with wine, thyme or dried fruit. And nearby attractions include an alpaca farm, the Maktesh Ramon crater, hiking trails and a spa resort.
The Social Goat Bed & Breakfast – Georgia
Want to get the farmstay experience, but don’t want to venture too far off the beaten path? Nestled within an urban setting only minutes from downtown Atlanta, the Social Goat Bed and Breakfast is a Victorian home located on three-quarters of an acre. Once part of a working farm on a larger property that was sold off, it’s now a “miniature city farm” home to five Nigerian dwarf goats along with cats, chickens – who provide farm fresh eggs for breakfast – turkeys, rabbits and a pond full of goldfish and koi. Guests can choose from accommodations in the main house, the Carriage House or the Rooster Cottage one street over. The B&B is walking distance to Grant Park, several restaurants and the Atlanta Zoo (if you’re seeking a different type of animal-viewing experience).
Oliver’s Farm Stay – New Zealand
Located in the beautiful South Canterbury region of New Zealand, Oliver’s Farm Stay is a newly restored 100-year-old former post office, now a B&B. Visitors can feed the hand-milked goats as well as visit with the resident cats, sheep, cows and chickens, or go for a walk with Molly the border collie. Nearby activities include hiking, skiing and fly fishing in the Waihi River on the 20-acre farm’s back boundary. Delicious cooked breakfasts (proprietor Campbell “Ollie” Oliver is a former chef) and homemade goat cheeses – and goat soaps – are among the highlights of TripAdvisor reviews for this charming and comfortable accommodation.
