Petaling Street

Located in Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown, Petaling Street hosts a night market that is legendary among locals and tourists. Unlike the sleek boutiques and malls of KL's City Center and the Bukit Bintang district, Petaling is overflowing with deals.

Petaling Street is one of the most pedestrian-friendly places in car-happy KL. Visitors can stroll down the street and window-shop while eating whatever street-food treats are on offer. Actually, many people come only to eat, leaving the shopping for another day unless they come across a real bargain.

Like all the best street markets in the world, haggling about the cost of items is expected here. It is rare to come across a price tag, and when you do, it is considered more of a starting point for the negotiation. Street food prices, however, are usually listed and are not open to debate.
