Russia

Such is its reputation that films, orchestras and even video games have appropriated the Trans-Siberian name.

Russia is the world's largest country, and there's no better way to see it than via this line. Stretching from Moscow in the west to Vladivostock in the far east, its 5,772 miles set a record – it's the longest railway line in the world.

The route traverses seven time zones and takes eight straight days to complete from one end to the other. Anyone interested in experiencing the full spectrum of Russian life would be wise to hop on and just go.
