The best bike-share cities around the world
No bike? No problem. The programs in these cities are changing transportation one spoke at a time.
Bixi, as the program is called (it's a portmanteau of bicycle and taxi), launched in this Canadian city in 2009 and has spawned copycats in cities like London, Melbourne and Boston. The system is cutting edge and runs on solar energy to reduce environmental impact and maximize the system’s overall energy efficiency.
Another cold-weather city that runs the program seasonally – from April through November – there are roughly 5,000 bikes at 460 docking stations around the city when in operation.
