7 beautiful outdoor operas around the world
These unusual venues will turn anyone into an opera fan.
Independence National Historical Park, Philadelphia, Pa.
The annual Opera on the Mall event on the lawn adjacent to Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia draws out casual opera fans for a picnic and a show (and the ocassional Ben Franklin impersonator). Last year, 6,000 people came out to watch "The Barber of Seville," a rapid-fire romp of hilarious misadventures and mistaken identities. The series will return for a fifth year this October for a showing of "La Traviata," and free tickets are available to the public.
