Amazon River Conservation in Peru

Travel with Earthwatch researchers by riverboat down the Samiria River to the flooded forest of Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve in Peru’s fabled Amazon region. Each day, volunteers hike the rainforest or paddle the smaller rivers and lakes, counting pink river dolphins, caimans (smaller kin of the alligator), macaws, giant river otters, Uakari monkeys, bats and an abundance of other wildlife. Your work helps Earthwatch and the local Cocoma people devise a conservation plan to protect this pristine paradise. Evenings are spent on the riverboat enjoying drinks on the upper deck and authentic South American cuisine.

Length: 8-day or 15-day trips
Accommodations: Private cabins in historic air-conditioned riverboat
Approximate Price: $2,575 to $3,675
