Croatia's second-largest city is also one of its most affordable beach towns. Cheaper than other urban centers such as Dubrovnik and Zagreb, it offers a slew of cultural offerings and its Bacvice beach is considered among the best in the country. The city's historic center was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 and is worth a visit alone, which shouldn't be too costly seeing as even upscale hotels can be had for less than $100 a night.
