Many lionfish roam the waters of the Red Sea, from the African lionfish to the clearfin lionfish. With their extraordinarily long fins, these fish are attention-grabbing – for a reason. Their odd shape coupled with bright colors and striking patterns are a warning to predators and humans alike; its spines are venomous.
When it comes to predators, the lionfish is set. It's also a clever predator itself, swimming with great agility and even blowing water at prey.
Beautiful though they may be, lionfish are the bad boys of the marine animal world. They're hostile to other reef animals and are considered an invasive species here in the United States.
