La Paz, Bolivia

In 2011, the normally dry Bolivian region of Potosi, which includes the capital La Paz, suffered its most severe snowfall in 20 years. The band of storms was part of a larger system that brought record snowfall to the driest regions of South America, including Chile's Atacama Desert, where more than 31 inches of snow fell in some parts.
