In 2011, snow hit areas of New Zealand not normally affected, including the central business district of Auckland, which had not seen snow for 72 years. The pictured snowfall was part of a series of record-breaking storms that wreaked havoc on the island nation, causing closures in many cities, including Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin.
