Israel's geographic diversity is best illustrated by satellite photos. The desert, mountains, and more-fertile northern regions can easily be picked out because of their different color shades.

The Dead Sea is the most noticeable landmark in inland Israel.  Satellite pictures also show one feature that people forget to associate with Israel: its long, beautiful Mediterranean coastline. Because of its image as a place of sunny landscapes and deserts, it might be surprising to some that it gets downright frigid in parts of Israel during the winter. Inland mountain peaks see snowfall each winter, and the city of Jerusalem gets a dose of snow flurries once or twice a year (and even occasional accumulation).
