Underwater Observatory Marine Park, Israel

Located on Israel's Red Sea coast, in the resort town of Eilat, the Underwater Observatory Marine Park is one of the world's most interesting aquariums. The Observatory is easily recognizable because of its tower, which hovers above the water just off the coast. The rest of the Marine Park is located on the shore. In all, 800-plus species are on display. Most of the marine animals hail from the Red Sea, giving the park a distinctly local focus.

The Observatory's two display towers are actually situated underwater, allowing guests to see Red Sea habitats that aren't in any way staged or artificial. A number of tanks, a shark pool, and a turtle and ray pool are also located inside the land-based sections of the Marine Park. This impressive venue will soon have some serious competition. A new, larger aquarium will open in the Jerusalem Zoo in 2015.
