Going beyond the tourist traps.
Prospect Park in New York
This Brooklyn park, while quite popular, is safely removed from the hustle and bustle of the more famous Central Park.
In our humble opinion, it's actually a lot more relaxing because it mimics nature: Prospect Park is composed of meadows and forest areas that look, to an urban eye anyway, like an actual untouched landscape, as compared to Central Park's obviously manufactured, though admittedly lovely, man-made glory (for instance, there are no castles in Prospect Park). It's also about the same size.
While massive, this park feels like part of the neighborhood, and it's always full of people picnicking on warm days.
