Some countries are synonymous with a particular sport. Brazil in soccer or the United States in basketball are two that come to mind. Success is invariably expected of them at the international stage of competition.

Then there are those countries whose excellence in a particular sport is almost counterintuitive. For whatever reason, be it geographical, cultural or something else, you just don't expect them to be any good at all. Those are the countries we highlight here.
