South Africa

Soccer is the most popular sport in South Africa by far, with some two million people playing it and countless others supporting local, regional and national teams.

The passion of these supporters is legendary, and they are considered some of the most colorful and eccentric soccer fans on the planet. Known for their odd customs — such as carrying coffins to indicate their team will "bury the opposition," or blowing loud trumpets called vuvuzelas — to their credit they've remained loyal to the sport despite a lack of success at the international level.
