Located in Maharashtra, in India, the Bhaja Caves have been used for 2,200 years. Because they were naturally protected from the elements, the detailed relief carvings made by local artisans are still visible, and visitors can clearly pick out the figures of people and animals.
In addition to the carvings, there are a number of stupas, mounds containing relics, and even some inscribed wooden beams that have allowed historians to date the caves.
