What ingredients are in these liqueurs?
From Campari to Chartreuse, we try to unravel the mystery inside.
Jägermeister's ingredients include 56 herbs, fruits, roots and spices, of which only a handful are known, among them citrus peel, licorice, anise, poppy seeds, saffron, ginger, juniper berries and ginseng. Such is the mystery of its contents that rumors of elk and deer blood as ingredients have circulated, though they have been debunked.
German-based Jägermeister’s production process is intensive. The ingredients are ground, then steeped in water and alcohol for a few days. Afterwards, this mixture is filtered and stored in oak barrels for about a year. When this time is up, it is then filtered again, and mixed with sugar, caramel, and alcohol. Yum!
