From pastry powerhouse to vegetable virtuoso, these 10 women are approaching the top of the culinary world.
Katie Button, Cúrate, Asheville
Katie Button trained under Ferran Adrià at elBulli in Spain, a restaurant once lauded as “the most imaginative generator of haute cuisine on the planet,” not to mention restaurant superstars José Andrés and Johnny Iuzzini of Jean-Gorges. She moved to Asheville, N.C., to help her mother open her restaurant. Six months later, she opened her own restaurant, Cúrate, and later Nightbell.
She was named one of Food & Wine's best new chefs and has been a semi-finalist for a James Beard Rising Star Chef Award. Her cookbook, based on the menu at Cúrate is focused on seasonal, product-focused recipes for home chefs.
