Commonly a breakfast menu item in restaurants across the world, shakshouka (also sometimes spelled "shakshuka") at its core is poached eggs, tomato sauce and vegetables. But it can be dressed up according to personal taste, with ingredients like Manchego cheese, chives and roasted eggplant added to the mix. It's an emerging item on U.S. menus and even has gained popularity as a food truck theme. It's also a great way to repurpose leftover spaghetti sauce.
