Saltenas, Bolivia

Savory on the inside, sweet on the outside, and somehow perfect for breakfast. Saltenas are a type of empanada sold as a street food in Bolivia. They're typically filled with beef, pork or chicken mixed in a sweet, slightly spicy or very spicy sauce, and sometimes also containing peas, potatoes and other ingredients. Send a tray up to Mom, but be sure to make enough for yourself, too. For easy prep, watch this two-minute how-to video.
