The American Dietetic Association lists scientifically backed long term benefits of a diet that excludes meat, poultry and fish: lower risk of heart disease, some cancers, diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure.

The main argument against vegetarianism is nutrient deficiency – people most often call out the diet for not providing enough protein.
