The full-bodied Syrah

Behind some of the darkest full-bodied red wines in the world, the Syrah grape is a popular variety covering some 460,000 acres around the world, including Switzerland and Chile.

Due to its intense flavor, Syrah is commonly blended with other varieties to fully round out a wine's taste. Chocolate, espresso, black pepper and truffle are common tasting characteristics of the grape. Its high-tanning count also makes it an exceptional wine for storing.

Because this is such a bold wine, you'll want to pair it with rich foods like meatloaf, shepherd's pie or roasted vegetables.
