Gatsby, South Africa

Legend has it that this sandwich was invented in the 1970s by a fishmonger in need of a hearty meal, and the name was randomly given because "The Great Gatsby" was a popular film in the country at the time. Usually served on a long roll, the contents of this South African sandwich can vary dramatically but for one compulsory item: french fries. Most South Africans add meat or seafood and a veggie or two in there as well.
