5. Princeton University

Yale students may make fun of Princeton, but Yale (which didn't even make this list) should probably keep it quiet, because Princeton's rocking it at No. 5. The university is known for its Environmental Institute, an interdisciplinary center of environmental research, education and outreach.

Princeton was Albert Einstein's university of choice; he became a lifetime member of Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study in 1933 and had an office on campus. Plenty of other scientists followed in his legacy; a few years ago, Princeton researchers invented a new 3D microscope that uses visible light instead of damaging X-rays.
