As medical science improves so many facets of our lives, the humble but vital wheelchair also advances.

Toward the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, inventors looked to the automobile to develop wheelchairs that could move with very little effort on the part of the user. Even Mercedes-Benz had its own model, which is on display at the Mercedes-Benz Museum.
