Once the home to Pablo Escobar and his cohorts, known more for crime than computers, in recent years Medellín has refashioned itself as one of South America's emerging tech hubs.
Hewlett-Packard based its entire Latin America services center here, while Kimberly-Clark and Pipeline Studios – a Canadian animation company – are among the big names to have moved in. The city has even been named “Innovation City of the Year” by the Wall Street Journal.
