Albert Einstein patented about 50 designs over the years for inventions that had nothing to do with physics theories.
It was the 1930s, and radio and movies were all the rage. Einstein was no scientist avoiding the world in an ivory tower – he was into movies and even struck up a friendship with British actor Charlie Chaplin. So maybe it's not that surprising that the scientist created a device to reproduce sound.
This electromagnetic sound reproduction device was apparently fairly simple, if you're a person who knows how to make electromagnetic devices. He created it with German engineer Rudolf Goldschmidt, who went on to make other similar devices.
