Sony World Photography Awards announces shortlist
The world's largest photo competition had a record number of entries.
The Sony World Photography Awards announced its shortlist Tuesday, and the world's biggest photography competition had quite the long list to whittle down.
The contest comprises 13 professional, 10 open and three youth categories. A total of 173,444 images from 171 countries were submitted. The shortlist, a truly global affair, includes photos from only 56 countries plus Hong Kong. Among the countries represented are the United States, with five shortlisted entries; France with another five; Israel with three (Gal Gross' "Sunrise" shown here); and Japan, with four entries.
Winners will be announced on April 23, but for now, here are a few of our favorites from the coveted shortlist.
