Long the subject of survival thrillers like 2015's "The Martian," Mars is about to receive its first starring role in a romantic comedy.
"The Space Between Us," helmed by British director Peter Chelsom and Israeli producer Sasha Harari, takes place in a future where humanity has successfully colonized Mars. A teenager born on the red planet subsequently strikes up a "long distance" friendship with a young woman back on Earth. When he gets his chance to finally visit her, it's an adventure unlike any other.
“Ultimately, it’s all about Gardner finding his humanity and what it means to be human, through quite literally experiencing Earth for the first time,” British actor Asa Butterfield told Entertainment Weekly.
"The Space Between Us" will land in theaters on Feb. 3, 2017.
