Academy Awards 2019: A preview of films to watch before the big night
From 'A Star is Born' to 'Black Panther,' these are the films that will compete at the 91st Academy Awards.
"The Favourite," from Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, focuses on two cousins jockeying to be court favorites during the reign of Queen Anne in the early 18th century. The period-comedy deftly juggles both humor and drama against a backdrop of power, greed and jealousy.
American actress Emma Stone, who plays Abigail Hill in the film, says repeat viewings of "The Favourite" will likely change your first impression.
“I laughed a lot the first time," the "La La Land" actress said of her first viewing. "I laughed a little less the second time. And by the third time, I was just really heartbroken...Which is my favorite kind of film that can encapsulate all of that. It can make you laugh and cry and feels very true even though it’s this outlandish circumstance and world."
"The Favourite" has been nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, just to name a few.
