Humanity may today be enamored with getting humans to Mars, but it wasn't too long ago that a much closer celestial body commanded all of our attention.
"First Man," the biographical drama from French-American director Damien Chazelle, focuses on the years leading up to the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon in 1969. According to Chazelle, whose 2016 "La La Land" earned six Oscars, his goal was to show the human aspect of the missions that captivated the word.
"When I first saw one of these capsules for real, it was so much less gilded than how I imagined it," he said. "I wouldn’t get into one for 10 minutes, let alone the time it takes to fly to the moon. I wanted the audience to feel like they’re inside that capsule, screaming to get out."
The film has been nominated for multiple Oscars.
