'A Quiet Place'

Possibly the most gripping horror-thriller of 2018, "A Quiet Place" revolves around a family living in a post-apocalyptic world where mysterious creatures hunt based on sound.

According to American actor John Krasinksi, who directed the film, the idea behind reducing sound in the film was something of a reaction to the loud blockbusters that permeate theaters.

I love those movies, but there’s something about all that noise that assaults you, in a way," he said. "We thought, what if you pulled it all back? Would that make it feel just as disconcerting and just as uncomfortable and tense?”

Ironically, "A Quiet Place" has earned a nomination for Best Sound Editing. As it turns out, the antithesis of the noisy world we live in truly is its own frightening character.
