7 movie sequels that outdid the original at the box office
With 'Star Wars' making box office history, we take a look at other times when lightning struck twice in Hollywood.
'Pitch Perfect 2'
"Pitch Perfect 2," the sequel to the 2012 film that made a cappella cool again, turned the volume to 11 at the box office when it was released in April 2015.
Utilizing the singing talents of American actress Anna Kendrick, Australian comedian Rebel Wilson, and many more, "Pitch Perfect 2" features the Barden Bellas musical group seeking to win the World Championship of A Cappella. Similar to the first film, the entire cast participated in an "a cappella boot camp" just prior to production.
While the original topped $65 million, "Pitch Perfect 2" sang its way to more than $183 million at the domestic box office – a number good enough to make it the top musical comedy of all time.
