7 female stars who proudly shaved their heads for roles
From Natalie Portman to Charlize Theron, these actresses aren't afraid to shed their locks in the name of good storytelling.
In 1992, American actress Sigourney Weaver once again reprised her role of Ellen Ripley in the science fiction thriller "Aliens 3." For this outing, however, Weaver decided to take her character's short locks in an even more extreme direction. The result, she said, was not only liberating, but also chilling.
"It made me feel colder," she told Starburst Magazine. "It’s amazing how much your head stays warm when you’ve got hair. So I just felt colder most of the time, and other than that, I just felt lighter."
As for her character, Weaver believes the look made her less powerful than would otherwise be assumed. "I think she felt more frail, perhaps because she had no hair, we all sort of looked like these skeletons in a way, and I felt it brought out everyone’s vulnerability," she added. "But I don’t think it made her tougher."
