The intriguing life of movie producer Arnon Milchan
From 'Pretty Woman' to 'The Revenant,' Milchan is an iconic Hollywood heavyweight unlike any other.
A passion for rare art
With a collection that includes works by Picasso, Pissarro and Basquiat, Milchan ranks in the top three of Hollywood art collectors. Pictured here is one of his more valuable paintings: Egon Schiele's "Wilted Sunflowers."
His love affair with art, born purely of pleasure, started at the age of 21 in Israel while he was working in the pharmaceutical industry. His later success in the film industry caused his collection to swell, eventually requiring the assistance of Christopher Eykyn, former head of the Impressionist and Modern Art Department at Christie's New York.
According to Eykn, it's not uncommon to receive a phone call from Milchan simply to talk about a particular artist. "That's the sign of a very passionate collector," he told Forbes. "Someone who at 2 a.m. is still reading about one of the artists that is in his collection."
