The true story of mountaineer Joe Simpson and climbing partner Simon Yates’ treacherous 1985 climb of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes is the stuff of nightmares. Even more remarkable? They both somehow made it back alive.

Scottish director Kevin Macdonald based the 2003 drama on Simpson's book of the same name, bringing to life the harrowing conditions, dangerous crevasses, and near-fatal mistakes that nearly cost the men everything.

The film's visceral storytelling, interspersed with interviews from both Simpson and Yates, has earned it repeated praise as one of the best survival tales ever told.
