8 actors who transformed their bodies for roles
From bulging muscles to skin and bones, the physical metamorphosis of Hollywood stars is an art all its own.
Chris Hemsworth for 'In The Heart of the Sea'
Known to millions of superhero fans as the powerful Norse god of thunder in the "Thor" franchise, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth recently showed he's also completely capable of looking, well, human.
The 32-year-old dropped 33 pounds in only four weeks to pull off the body of a starved, sinewy sailor in Ron Howard's lost-at-sea drama "In the Heart of the Sea." In contrast to the constant eating and weightlifting for playing a superhero, Hemsworth says he and his co-stars reduced their daily intake to a paltry 500 calories on a diet of boiled eggs and salad.
While he ultimately shed the weight, the actor quipped on Twitter that it's not something he'd eagerly try again. “Just tried a new diet/training program called ‘Lost at Sea,’” he wrote. “Wouldn’t recommend it.”
