Philip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote in 'Capote'
To many, Truman Capote was the role that the late American actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was born to play. Between his convincing looks and riveting performance, the film received near-universal acclaim for its portrayal of an adventurous journalist.
Roger Ebert gave the film a perfect 4/4 star rating, describing "Capote" as "a film of uncommon strength and insight, about a man whose great achievement requires the surrender of his self-respect." Hoffman won a variety of awards, including the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his portrayal of the title character.
"I got this vibe, this feeling that he [Capote] had a way of meeting somebody in a very short period of time, understanding what it was he needed to do in order to win this person's trust, to let them know that it's OK to speak openly with him," Hoffman told NPR in 2005, the year "Capote" was released.
