John Travolta's pompadour in 'Grease'
With a name like "Grease," it's no wonder this movie features quite a few characters with slick hair, including Danny, who is played by American actor John Travolta. He sports a pompadour, a hairdo made popular by Elvis and remixed by many musicians, including Lyle Lovett, Rihanna, Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars. "Grease" has been performed around the world, from New York to Tel Aviv to Tokyo, and the pompadour has traveled with it.
"I love the vintage feel of a pomp. It's a throwback to the '50s and '60s, but has enough modern twists to keep us going vertical," says Janine Jarman, owner of Hairroin Salon in Los Angeles. "This timeless style is quite flattering on anyone – it's balanced, gives the illusion of added height, and is a tried-and-true way to wear your hair off of your face. Best of all, it looks fabulous on camera!"
