10 upcoming superhero movies to stoke your inner geek
From 'Wonder Woman' to 'X-Men,' the cinema is about to be visited by nearly every superhero imaginable.
Described by American director Bryan Singer as the film that details the true birth of the X-Men, "Apocalypse" will feature everyone's favorite mutants battling an "immortal, invincible" foe.
Set in 1983, the plot revolves around the return of the world's most powerful mutant, a giant known only as Apocalypse. After learning of this villain's intent to once again wipe out humanity, Charles Xavier, played by Scottish actor James McAvoy, and Raven, played by American Jennifer Lawrence, team up to lead a young group of X-Men against him.
So what makes this big bad guy worse than other villains? Not only has he been around for some 5,000 years, he also has the ability to absorb the powers of other mutants. These include regeneration, disease immunity, physical transformation and the ability to convert body parts into weapons. So yeah, pretty hardcore.
We'll see what Xavier, Cyclops, Mystique and the rest of the gang can do to stop this threat when "X-Men: Apocalypse" hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
