From far away, the False Apollo isn't exactly the most beautiful butterfly in Israel. Greyish green with a flash of red on the hind wings, it tends to blend in with its environment. 

But a closer look through the macro lens proves that this insect is truly spectacular. A deep black body is framed by tiny white hairs – and check out those antennae! The False Apollo is quite the character indeed.
