Bougainvillea flowers burst with color
The vibrant plant is native to South America, and is now found throughout the Mediterranean.
Ever heard of the Bougainvillea flower? The popular ornamental plant, first discovered in the late 1700s, thrives in the Mediterranean. Locarno, Switzerland – with its mild climate – is famous for its bougainvilleas.
The pink and white photos shown here were taken in a leafy suburban Israeli neighborhood situated halfway between Jerusalem and the coastal city of Tel Aviv. These distinct flowers, which can be grown as indoor houseplants, are also used on fence lines and along walkways in public promenades.
The Bougainvillea is just one of many colorful flowers you can find in Israel at this time of year.
