Israeli judoka Yarden Gerbi won the bronze medal on Tuesday afternoon in a riveting match against Miku Tashiro from Japan in the Women's 63 kg Judo match. Slovenia won the gold medal and France won the silver. This is Gerbi's first Olympic medal and the first for her native Israel at the Rio Games.

Gerbi, a native of the coastal Mediterranean city of Netanya, previously won the gold medal at the 2013 World Judo Championships and a bronze at the 2015 European Games. In December 2014, she was named Israeli Sportswoman of the Year. She was an early favorite coming into this summer's Olympics.
