Photo highlights: Champions crowned at international surfing competition
The world's best surfers showcased their talents at the World Surf League competition.
In the photo above, Brazilian pro-surfer Halley Batista caught our eye. He focused intensely as the waves splash gloriously white around him.
He and other professional surfers competed at the World Surf League competition in the Israeli coastal city of Netanya last weekend. At the annual gathering, men and women compete in events at various surfing locations around the world every winter.
In the end, French surfer Maud Le Car won the Women's QS1,000 competitions and Portuguese-Brazilian surfer Pedro Henrique won the Men's QS1,500.
"I'm over the moon, I came here not feeling 100 percent and managed to build my form in this event so to finally win is incredible," Henrique said. "I'm going to go home and train more to be ready for the next events. It's amazing to start the year like this, but the season is long."
Speaking about Israel, Henrique said: "This was one of my favorite trips ever, I didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by everything. The people were incredible to us, the places we visited have so much history and we also got some fun waves."
