Olympic hopeful celebrates historic day at world championships
Triple jumper is first woman medalist for Israel.
Winning an international athletics competition isn't the worst way to kick off a summer. In this photo, Portugal's Patricia Mamona won the gold, Israel's Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko scored the silver and Greece's Paraskevi Papahristou snagged the bronze.
The three celebrate with their medals at Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam. And celebrations really are in order: these triple jump competitors just crushed the 23rd European Athletics Championships.
The day was especially significant for Knyazyeva-Minenko, one of Israel's best bets to medal at the Rio Olympics next month. When Knyazyeva-Minenko climbed the podium in Amsterdam, she became the first Israeli woman athlete to medal at the world championships.
"In London, I was the underdog. Now people expect me to win an (Olympic) medal," Knyazyeva-Minenko told From The Grapevine a month ago.
Looks like she's living up to everyone's expectations.
