Defending Euroleague champion Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv defeated Alba Berlin 73-64 Thursday at the O2 World in the German capital to clinch a playoff berth.

Maccabi never trailed during the game, though Alba kept it close throughout. The game was tied twice in the fourth quarter and Alba was within three points with four minutes to go. But that’s when Tel Aviv's Devin Smith sank his seventh three-pointer and Maccabi held the hosts to just a single point the rest of the way.

The 31-year-old Smith, who is now in his fourth season with the team, finished with a career-high 28 points.

The championship game, which Tel Aviv won last year, will take place this year in Madrid in May.
