Rower Moran Samuel placed third in the women's 1,000 meter race on Sunday, taking home the bronze medal, Israel's first of the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.

The 34-year-old Samuel – who's also a player on Israel's national basketball team – joins fellow Israeli Dror Cohen who is competing with a three-person team in the Sonar racing class, one of three sailing classes in the Paralympics.

Samuel's win follows the two Judo medals that Israel won during the Rio Olympics last month – one by Yarden Gerbi and one by Or Sasson. Together, they joined other Israeli athletes who participated at the Rio Olympics including those in gymnastics, golf, track and field, sailing, badminton and other sports. And they all follow in a rich history of former Israeli Olympians.
