Jumping backwards for gold
A track and field athlete jumps high in the 23rd European Athletics Championships.
If you can jump backwards this well, you might win a medal. In this photo, Ma'Ayan Shahaf from Israel competes to qualify for the women's high jump on the first day of the 23rd European Athletics Championships at Amsterdam's Olympic Stadium. European Athletics Championships began in 1934 and have been held every two years.
Shahaf is jumping just in time: the Olympics start in only 29 days! Want more sports coverage? Check out our trove of Olympic stories.
